STEM Activity > Voice-activated Sign Light Design
In year 2020-22, our school has received ‘School-based Support Services for Secondary Schools’ from the Education Bureau to design cross-curricular STEM projects. Through a series of classes, students used micro:bit and Leds to create their own voice-activated sign light projects. They experienced the design cycle of engineering: using programming to control the lighting mode, controlling costs with algebra, using electrical knowledge to complete the circuit connection. Thus, the knowledge of each subject was extensively combined into a unique product.
This picture shows a student's own voice-activated sign light design work. The functions of prompting and lighting are fulfilled by controlling the number of lights and lighting time according to the size of the sound waves.
