Hand-painted Minibus Sign
The minibus sign is a unique symbol on public minibuses in the past. The white plastic sign with hand-written red and blue characters let passengers know the destination and fare of the vehicle. Over the years, it has guided countless passengers and witnessed the prosperity of Hong Kong in the 80s and 90s.
Miniature Floral Plaques and Rainbow Calligraphy
Floral plaques, a form of handicraft, have a history of over a hundred years in Hong Kong and have been included in the first list of intangible cultural heritage by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. Initially used as signboards, floral plaques have been widely used in weddings, business openings, inaugurations, temple festivals, and other events as decorations and promotional announcements. From color combinations, calligraphy arrangements to decorative styles, floral plaques embody a strong Chinese charm and traditional essence.
“Rainbow Calligraphy”, also known as “Dragon and Phoenix Calligraphy”, appeared as early as the Tang Dynasty. At that time, various Chinese characters were outlined using the patterns of dragons and phoenixes, two auspicious mythical creatures. The initial calligraphy was painted on bamboo slips, and the color was only black. In modern times, some calligraphers thought that in addition to dragons and phoenixes, different colors and zodiac animals, as well as flowers, birds, fish, and insects could be used, integrating fine arts and calligraphy. The characters are as lively as dragons flying and phoenixes dancing, producing a comprehensive beauty of writing and artistic conception.
Leisure Landscape Painting
Leisure landscape painting is a way to present beautiful natural scenery using acrylic or watercolor painting techniques. In the artwork, students can choose to use acrylic or watercolor techniques to express their feelings towards nature. Acrylic paint, with its vivid colors and semi-transparent characteristics, can create rich tones and a sense of depth. Watercolor is known for its soft, flowing effects, and can express the transparency of water and the changes in light. Leisure landscape painting not only cultivates students’ observational skills and sense of belonging to their own places, but also inspires their creativity and imagination. By depicting the beautiful scenery of nature, students can gain a sense of tranquility and relaxation during the creative process, and also allow the audience to appreciate the charm and beauty of nature.
Drawing Emotions
Etegami (えてがみ) originated in Japan, and it refers to a letter that combines “text” and “patterns”. The aim is to bring the drawer, the recipient, and the subject of the drawing closer together, conveying blessings through the artwork. The patterns drawn in Etegami are mostly based on natural scenery, and it is common to place a line or two of poetry on the side to express inner emotions.
Tile Story
The development of mosaics has spanned thousands of years, originating in Mesopotamia. At that time, the content of the paintings was mostly simple decorative patterns or things around life, and the colors were more monotonous. With the passage of time, mosaic inlays have developed more, and the materials have become much richer. Items such as buttons, marbles, nails, sand, bricks, wood blocks, and building blocks, etc., can all be used as many incredible inlay works. Life is actually like a mosaic, needing to be pieced together bit by bit with love. Life is like a mosaic painting, composed of countless small fragments. Everyone’s life is unique and colorful, and each fragment has different shapes, colors, and textures. Sometimes, we may encounter difficulties and challenges, just like a dark tone area in a mosaic. However, it is the combination of these fragments that creates a unique picture. We should learn to appreciate every fragment in life, whether it is light or dark, because they together shape our personality and growth. Let us use love and gratitude to piece together a beautiful mosaic painting, showing our unique and wonderful life.
Fluid Painting
Fluid painting, also known as flow painting, or in English, Acrylic Pouring or Fluid Art, refers to an art form that does not use a brush, but allows the paint to flow and mix on the canvas according to the angle at which the creator tilts the canvas or other techniques. Since the creation of fluid painting is difficult to control artificially, and it can produce natural textures like rocks and waves, it is also considered a spiritual creative method that can heal the heart.

Respect and Cherish Life
Respect and cherish life is an extension of this year’s theme activity for moral and civic education. It aims to help students consolidate their positive attitude towards life and empathy for others through drawing bookmarks and postcards. It helps them understand that every life is unique and precious, whether it’s human or other creatures. We should treat every life with respect and care, not easily harm or deprive them of their value of existence. Let’s cherish the miracle of life, strive to create a harmonious, respectful, and equal society, where every life can shine and pursue happiness and growth together.
